Stream Restoration Planning

Stream Restoration is defined as the reestablishment of the correct referenced riparian ecology and natural morphological channel parameters according to it's existing and projected hydrology. However, projected hydrology can be difficult to predict unless carefully planned and controlled through future development. The long term goals of stream restoration are self maintained geological stability, a stabile, productive and diverse aquatic habitat with resultant improved water quality which only comes from broad planning and understanding of the watersheds history and its future impact. Re-constructing a stream without understanding this basic planning principle will not meet these long term goals and therefore will not meet the definition of stream restoration.
